VanRamblings decided to play tourist on our first full day in Halifax.
Wearing our waterproof jacket, we headed up leafy Coburg Road for the 15-minute stroll to Spring Garden Road, and downtown Halifax. We did some window shopping, took in the Public Garden, wandered the streets (along with a myriad other ‘tourists’), and at 4 p.m. headed over to the Empire Park Lane theatre for a screening of Christopher Nolan’s Inception.
Following the screening of Inception (suffice to say that we were not enthralled), VanRamblings sauntered down to the Halifax waterfront …
During the course of the day we made contact with the estimable Corinne, with whom we’ll be staying while in the too lovely for words Annapolis Royal (“I figured you’d need time to decompress before heading out to the ‘cultural shock’ of the Valley”), and by 9:30 p.m. we were back at Howe Hall, not (of course) before we got lost on the way back to the university, walking right past the college and our residence — this getting lost business on our way back to Howe Hall has, sad to say, become a regular feature of our stay in Halifax but, what the heck, we can use the exercise.
Not a lot on the agenda today except, perhaps, for a screening of The Kids Are All Right at the Empire Oxford theatre on Quinpool Road. We had thought of renting a vehicle while in Halifax, but decided to opt for traipsing around the streets by foot and wandering the avenues aimlessly without any particular agenda. The operative word of the day is sssslllloooowwww.
